چکیده
Abstract This paper is a continuation of previous by the first two authors to appear in same IWR Special Issue for Scientific Computing. We are concerned with an optimal regional control problem spatially structured vector borne epidemic system, considering malaria as case study. A conceptual reduced mathematical model had been presented consisting two-component reaction-diffusion system. Three actions (controls) included: killing mosquitoes, treating infected humans and reducing contact rate mosquitoes-humans. The which faced concerns choice region intervention, introducing cost functional takes into account total damages produced disease, controls intervention certain subdomain, finite time horizon case. gradient algorithm proposed search minimal value functional, respect both parameters intervention. scope present numerical implementation such algorithm. level set method has played major role description subregion outcomes series simulations reported, under variety parameter scenarios.

RNA Interference for Mosquito and Mosquito-Borne Disease Control
RNA interference (RNAi) is a powerful tool to silence endogenous mosquito and mosquito-borne pathogen genes in vivo. As the number of studies utilizing RNAi in basic research grows, so too does the arsenal of physiological targets that can be developed into products that interrupt mosquito life cycles and behaviors and, thereby, relieve the burden of mosquitoes on human health and well-being. A...
متن کاملEvolution in a spatially structured population subject to rare epidemics.
We study a model that gives rise to spatially inhomogeneous population densities in a system of host individuals subject to rare, randomly distributed disease events. For stationary hosts that disperse offspring over short distances, evolutionary dynamics can lead to persistent populations with a variety of spatial structures. A mean-field analysis is shown to account for the behavior observed ...
متن کاملSymbiotic control of mosquito borne disease.
It is well accepted that the symbiotic relationships insects have established with several microorganisms have had a key role in their evolutionary success. Bacterial symbiosis is also prevalent in insects that are efficient disease vectors, and numerous studies have sought to decrypt the basic mechanisms of the host-symbiont relationships and develop ways to control vector borne diseases. 'Sy...

There are economic and physical limitations when applying prevention and control strategies for urban vector borne diseases. Consequently, there are increasing concerns and interest in designing efficient strategies and regulations that health agencies can follow in order to reduce the imminent impact of viruses like Dengue, Zika and Chikungunya. That includes fumigation, abatization, reducing ...
متن کاملMosquito Surveillance for Prevention and Control of Emerging Mosquito-Borne Diseases in Portugal — 2008–2014
Mosquito surveillance in Europe is essential for early detection of invasive species with public health importance and prevention and control of emerging pathogens. In Portugal, a vector surveillance national program-REVIVE (REde de VIgilância de VEctores)-has been operating since 2008 under the custody of Portuguese Ministry of Health. The REVIVE is responsible for the nationwide surveillance ...
